First read book of the year! 📚 Out of The Silent Planet by C. S. Lewis Having only read Narnia before, it was interesting to read something Lewis wrote of a different genre & for an adult audience. Beautiful prose, unsurprisingly, and definitely plan to check out the other two books in the series.

been lagging a bit on reading and also doing multiple books at once, but Book #2 finished! The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien figured since I finally watched LotR and just read some Lewis, it’d be a good pick What I learned: 1. Gandalf fixes everything 2. Bombur is fat

I’ve read Slaughterhouse-Five, might have to go back and read Rosewater since I know they share a direct connection

Book #4 House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski been working on this off & on for 3+ months now Such an important origin of modern & internet horror, and the horror at the core of it is phenomenal. A feat of publishing, too. Gave me one major nightmare lol glad I read it, glad to be done with it

I found the stuff about the Zampano and Navidson absolutely compelling but had no interest in the footnote story and stopped even reading them.

there’s definitely some parts of it that are very good, especially as he starts losing his grasp of sanity, but I didn’t get anything out of the various accounts of drug and sex escapades that you have to wade through

Book #5 A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami My 7th Murakami I’ve read and had a blast with it. Maybe the most fun I’ve had reading a book of his, it is rather fast-paced, noir-y and just a good time. Did not realize it’s the 3rd of a trilogy tho, so will need to go back and read the first two.

Book #6 Love in the Time of Cholera Gabriel García Márquez Unfortunately haven’t been reading a lot lately, but finally finished this. Gabo’s thick prose was intimidating at times, but the depth of his characters is mesmerizing. Certainly a fascinating exploration on the complexities of love.

I really enjoy the covers for the 2015 editions of all his books (like this one here). It’s so neat they all form a big puzzle. There’s a diagram of it here. 99designs.com/blog/famous-...

I definitely need to read more Haruki. Kafka on the Shore was so weird. I both hated and loved it and still think about it two years after reading it.

My favorite book, always glad when I see someone give it a go. Did you find the check mark?

I didn’t! I did my best to check all the footnotes and everything, but some things did elude me

Yeah that’s feels like the vibe haha I’m rebuilding my interest in reading so idk if I’ll get to it this year but I wanna get a copy in my hands this year

I should finally start reading it in earnest. I'm maybe 100 pages in and I really wanna experience it, but it's probably the most complicated to read book I've ever read lol

The first 100 or so pages was definitely the hurdle for me, that was like 3 months, and then I finished the rest in 2 weeks. You start getting a lot of the mostly blank pages after that haha

ICYMI, the author‘s sister is the musician “Poe” who released an album based on or otherwise related to this book. It’s quite good.: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haunted...

I really want to read this one! It never pops up on my discount book website though, lol

Vonnegut gotta be in my top 3 favs. My partner just read Cat's Cradle on my recommendation and liked it a lot. Jailbird is my fav personally

I'm not sure which books you've read, but Eliot Rosewater is briefly in Slaughterhouse-Five, and Kilgore Trout is one of the main characters in Breakfast of Champions (he shows up or gets mentioned in most of Vonnegut's novels)

I’ve read Sirens of Titan and Cat’s Cradle. Slaughterhouse as well, but it’s probably been about 15+ years.

I'm actually almost finished with Sirens of Titan right now! I read Slaughterhouse-Five in one sitting in college, and now Vonnegut my favorite author
