First read book of the year! 📚 Out of The Silent Planet by C. S. Lewis Having only read Narnia before, it was interesting to read something Lewis wrote of a different genre & for an adult audience. Beautiful prose, unsurprisingly, and definitely plan to check out the other two books in the series.

been lagging a bit on reading and also doing multiple books at once, but Book #2 finished! The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien figured since I finally watched LotR and just read some Lewis, it’d be a good pick What I learned: 1. Gandalf fixes everything 2. Bombur is fat

Book #3! God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. This is the 3rd Vonnegut novel I’ve read recently, and it’s very charming as is his style. Multiple characters apparently make their way into some of his other novels, so looking forward to seeing them pop up!

Book #4 House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski been working on this off & on for 3+ months now Such an important origin of modern & internet horror, and the horror at the core of it is phenomenal. A feat of publishing, too. Gave me one major nightmare lol glad I read it, glad to be done with it

I just read this one a few months back. It's the only book that made me feel like i was going insane in parts reading it. So amazing (i do not want to reread it)

there’s definitely some parts of it that are very good, especially as he starts losing his grasp of sanity, but I didn’t get anything out of the various accounts of drug and sex escapades that you have to wade through

I stopped reading that stuff pretty early on. Super obnoxious. I hate how they telegraph that this character is just some guy and not a writer by having him fuck up there/their/they're all the time but then make him wankily prosaic anyway.

I fell off around the sexcapades cause I was reading it during flights and I just didn't care to be reading that squeezed in next to other people. I really should try to pick it up again while I'm home though.

That sort of thing kills books for me. Most recently Clive Barker's Coldheart Canyon. Which had a really interesting plot but had so much pointless shagging in it that I got very bored very quickly.

Book #5 A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami My 7th Murakami I’ve read and had a blast with it. Maybe the most fun I’ve had reading a book of his, it is rather fast-paced, noir-y and just a good time. Did not realize it’s the 3rd of a trilogy tho, so will need to go back and read the first two.

Book #6 Love in the Time of Cholera Gabriel García Márquez Unfortunately haven’t been reading a lot lately, but finally finished this. Gabo’s thick prose was intimidating at times, but the depth of his characters is mesmerizing. Certainly a fascinating exploration on the complexities of love.

Book #7 Artemis Fowl Eoin Colfer Wanted something easy to get back into a regular reading habit, so revisited a childhood favorite. It’s a pretty fun take on magic/fairies/goblins etc but I think I mostly liked it as a kid because the main character reminded me of Ken Ichijoji from Digimon 02.

Book #8 The Remains of the Day Kazuo Ishiguro 3rd Ishiguro I’ve read & I can say with certainty he’s one of my favorite authors. His writing is just so beautiful and enthralling, even during the most mundane. The air of melancholy that he’s able to carry through a whole book is truly phenomenal.

I reread this one during my stay in the hospital after my surgery and it was just as good as when I read it as a kid, I related to Holly a lot more than I realized

I might be guilty of trying to pick up all the books with these covers to try and make the puzzle at some point. 👀

My favorite book, always glad when I see someone give it a go. Did you find the check mark?

Its at the start of one of the chapters. I won't spoil where exactly because it was a cool experience when I actually found it.

The first 100 or so pages was definitely the hurdle for me, that was like 3 months, and then I finished the rest in 2 weeks. You start getting a lot of the mostly blank pages after that haha

Such a phenomenally creepy book! Was reading it while also playing Killer 7, and had to put the game away for later, because I was getting messed up. 😬
