If this is the public statement then imagine what was being said in private channels. The drafting of this is so careful, the signatures so universal, you don’t have to be a diplomat to read between the lines.

Thing is Dimitriev, Putin’s banker, met with Witkoff and Trump’s son in law in a private residence in Miami. Who knows how many $billions have been promised to flow directly into personal pockets.

1) see below 2) thanks for this, I hadn’t clocked who else signed it, I thought it was just EU leaders. That they managed to get Japan on it in the extraordinarily short timeframe and given Japan’s normal nemawashi approach to handling statements is both amazing and showing how horrified everyone is

Let me decode that. Para 1: Nice of you to show up. Para 2: There's some stuff in here, like 'Russia stops invading other countries', that we can live with Para 3: Over our dead bodies. Fuck off. Fuck off some more. Para 4: Fuck off. Para 5: Fuck off.

@ottocr.at given the subset of eu leaders that signed this, I'm expecting a draft of a stronger statement that other, more ethical leaders want to sign. This looks like the bare minimum from the more cowardly group. I expect that a stronger response is coming.

@ottocr.at I think that a group of powerful men should do better than Sara Marin in her own. I'm happy to call them cowards if they don't even dare to do that, but you're welcome to have a more nuanced approach. Why does it matter?
