A long thread but an important one. Cos it will be all over the RW media. Why hasn’t @monkemma.bsky.social got a damehood yet? @andyburnham.bsky.social we are waiting…

Emma Monk@monkemma.bsky.social

Oh boy, are the Right excited by this graph recently published by The Economist! And of course none of them has bothered to read the article itself (TBF, it is behind a paywall!). So as always, let's add a little context and explain why these kinds of comparisons are so problematic 🧵1/25

. It's highly offensive to describe putin as a humanitarian - when he launched an illegal invasion of a sovereign, democratic state and commits war crimes on a daily basis. Americans should vote out the Trump regime that called him that! #bbcbreakfast #bbclaurak #bbcbh #toriesgone842 #Midterms .

A long thread but an important one. @danneidle.bsky.social does important and to the liars and fraudsters don’t like it. Dan deserves recognition and support. The guilty deserve the publicity. For the victims sake.

I'm being sued for $795m. By a fugitive fraudster. In Wyoming. Using an anti-Mafia law. 🧵

This Is A Good Idea. Affording a car may be impossible but driving for a living can be a springboard into the world of work.

Tom Roberts@tpgroberts.bsky.social

To borrow a policy from Stephen Bush, the is one type of learning that is most likely to actually help someone into a job and it isn't an NVQ in bricklaying. Give driving lessons to NEETs.

If Trump was determined to bring down the Iranian leadership then surely attacking Kharg Island would do it? So why hasn’t he?

Mark Chadbourn@chadbourn.bsky.social

Another great opportunity for Trump to screw up the world: Senior Iranian officials have told Reuters of plans to attack undersea internet cables in the Gulf if the US or Israel strikes again. It also aims to block repairs, prolonging disruptions to internet services, banking and cloud computing.

The energy cost in my shop already is over double what it was just before the war in Ukraine. It was rising fast before that. The result: fewer staff, less investment and almost nonexistent existent profits. That can’t continue…

Prem Sikka@premnsikka.bsky.social

Some of Europe’s highest energy costs expected in Britain this winter. Since privatisation UK gas storage capacity reduced to about 8 - 12 days, EU has 80 -120 days. UK is net importer of electricity. Wars, privatisation and profiteering take toll.

At what point does Trump realise that the political cost of the case is more than the potential reward?

The vitriol the trans are receiving is a horrifying reminder on what gays received in the ‘80’s. That homophobia is *mostly* unacceptable now. Trans people deserve that same recognition and compassion most gays now receive. People are people not labels.

victoria scott@victoriascott.bsky.social

All cis people on this site should be nicer to trans people facing existential threats I think. Just imo

The fine per head of population in the UK is 74p In New Mexico it is £9,000 Someone has got this wrong. Hint: it wasn’t the Americans

$25 billion! 💥💥💥 This is one of the biggest fines in history — and it cuts to the core of the crooked Brexit ref! The case is about Facebook harvesting data from millions of users and selling it to Cambridge Analytica to generate targeted ads. Cambridge Analytica worked for the Leave camp and Trump.

That takes me back to the original. Wanted but would never fit… Well done Peugeot. Sock it to the Chinese competition.

This Is just pure evil.

The word is JOIN. Just join, not rejoin and not rejoin when they do what we want. We want to join their club. It’s their club and their rules.

David Henig@davidheniguk.bsky.social

Don't talk about "a wholly new European Union" if you actually want to rejoin since it still sounds somewhat reluctant. And don't have semantic worries about the word rejoin. Advocate or not for the UK to be in the same group as all of its neighbours. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o...

“Reform UK don't need to vet what people will say in the future, as Farage claims. They just need to be genuinely curious about what they've said and done in the past. They are not… Their vetting seems to be a manual on how to circumvent vetting. It’s a hosing-down of candidates so they look clean.”

Repeat after me: 1) PIP isn't an out of work benefit. It is a benefit paid to disabled people to pay for the extra costs of living with a disability. 2) Some PIP claimants work. Some PIP claimants will never able to work at all. 3) Impoverishing people doesn't get them closer to employment

Me? No I didn’t see anything? I just came over to see what the commotion was all about.

Excellent discussion of actual reality not political posturing. The conversation is allowed to breathe. Well worth a listen.

Ed is saying, carefully the bleeding obvious. Growth, defence and our place in the world is in Europe. It’s just logical.
