On the Edge team, we think web apps should be easier to install. The default browser install button is great, but we'd like something which you can use on your own site, how and when you want it. That's why we're proposing the Web Install API, which you can now test!

"you" in that sentence is the web site publisher, right? I'm not sure that this is better user agency than browser affordances. We've seen enough dark patterns from sites to push notifications, let's not repeat that with "please install me" UI.

This feature is extremely useful for legit sites, which don't push users to install their apps. There should be some reasonable limitation to this API and better UX made by the browsers. Notification issue is disturbing, but this issue should be solved by better standard, not by opting out

Love this, keep going! The web needs a better app install flow. My feedback: - Drop the “wants to install apps” prompt if at all possible, it seems redundant - Make the install prompt look good, like it came from an app store! Hero image, title, description

I don't think it's that bad to have a browser message (or rather, that it triggers the browser to make the flow – the browser could let you choose whether to check or not) because someone might end up having a button that does the trigger and install a malware PWA itself.
