My own country, Canada, ranks near the bottom end of this list, I see. Nestled between Netherlands and Germany. Seems about right. #canada 🇨🇦 #netherlands 🇳🇱 #germany 🇩🇪 #democracy 🇪🇺 🕊️

Let's contrast that with the percentage of population in those countries that speak English fluently. With some exceptions of (such as Mexico, which bears the brunt of US political retaliation), or Turkey, it's some good correlation.

Thos data is inaccurate when it comes to Poland. 1. It is extremely skewed in that working age people knew English a lot more. 2. In workforce, up to 87% of Poles know English, most at intermediate level. So, that 20% is fully fluent but more can acces English sources antyweb.pl/znajomosc-je...

But we are not talking about English fluency in the Polish workforce. We are talking about how Polish people see democracy in the US, and that includes Poles in all demographics, not just the workforce.

Yes, but do you suspect our 65plus seniors to try to access NYT website? On the other hand English is the language that basically every elementary school is teaching so everybody similar to me or younger should know it well. I argue it is more a political question here then about sources of info.

This is more a political question in Poland probably. The proTrump presidential.candidate just won with 51% of votes (and 73% participation). So many of those "USA is a democracy working well" are very proTrump and Maga-values. Example- biggest oposition party leader foto (the one on the right)

Not so fast: 'official language' vs 'speaking the language' are two pairs of shoes. Here are estimates: India population 1.4bn:˜265 million speak English, ˜129 million being considered fluent. Kenya pop. 52m: 2.7 million speak English to some degree Nigeria: pop. 228m: 60m speak English

The chart on support for "strong leader willing to break some rules" is interesting. Unsurprisingly, Germany's at the bottom. Interestingly, Spain, Chile and Brazil, countries with more recent memories of "strong leaders" are also disenchanted with the species.
