Billions of dollars’ worth of contracts predicting oil would fall and the S&P 500 would rise were placed about 15 minutes before Trump announced a U-turn on Iran in a post on Truth Social. CFTC staff began to investigate...then were told to lay off. www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

Sam Altman said people are just gonna have to die in order to implement AI. In the very same week, Anthropic claimed it’s a human rights violation to be mean to the computer. These people need to be held accountable. They think lines of code are a person with rights but living people are debris.
Over the past year, Anthropic has repeatedly flirted with the idea that its AI models could be conscious in some way. In February, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said on a podcast, “We don’t know if the models are conscious.”
This. Like… did you know Jewish women have to get the consent of their husbands to get a Jewish divorce (called a get)? My parents legally divorced in 1981 and my mom finally got her *religious* divorce about 25 years later (my dad had been remarried with 3 more kids for almost all of those 25 yrs)
He said this at the time, as did many, and it remains a bald-faced lie. Not a matter of opinion. It's just completely untrue as an objective factual matter. Civil marriage laws don't work like that and never have. Just like the legality of divorce and remarriage doesn't affect the Catholic Church.
We know the world is unjust because Jim Bakker outlasted Phil Hartman by 28 years - I know which guy I’m mourning
Jim Bakker, the TV preacher brought down by sex and financial scandals, has died at 86. He and his then-wife, Tammy Faye Bakker, built a televangelism empire that ended in a spectacular collapse of greed, scandal, and excess.
To be clear - it should be a hard red line even if he were talking about Memphis or Orlando or Provincetown but listing San Diego sure shows his “respect” for our Military. And don’t pretend the guy that wanted to prosecute over “86” doesn’t know what “take out” means 🤬
He simply must be removed from office as any other President would have been if they had uttered these words. "A small price to pay" means he is willing to let 15 million Americans be murdered and he thinks it is acceptable. The fact that those people clapped when he said that makes me sick.
Even aside from the anti-trust, the larger underlying issue is that these huge debt funded purchases should not be allowed. I’m not sure what the answer is and *some* debt is ok but these overly leveraged buyouts keep destroying companies and businesses and hurt everyone but the deal makers.

Philadelphia residents competed on Saturday in the city’s first parallel parking championship. Some of the contestants, like a city bus driver, were professionals, while others were in it for the love of the game. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/04/u...
So happy to see this!
Great news for students who vote in NH: While Student IDs "are no longer expressly valid to establish voter identity under RSA 659:13, election officials may consider them, along with other available evidence." Gives poll workers flexibility to ensure students can vote. #NHPolitics #nhtok

This breathtaking NYT story about Trump's Russian entanglements includes three people who've been part of the operation to cultivate Trump since 2015: Bryan Lanza, Sheikh Tahoon, and Kirill Dmitriev. This is literally the culmination of the original plan. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/03/u...

There are a lot of Trump officials who need to be impeached, but Russell Vought -- the quarterback of all the Project 2025 fuckery and a central player in the administration's overreach -- really needs to be at the top of the list.
Unless Congress reclaims its power, this will just become the new normal. A good first step would be to impeach Vought. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/02/u...

Hey @nytimes.com I know your #SpellingBee dictionary is effing terrible but HOYDEN??? Seriously???? How does your dictionary not have that one???! It’s in every major dictionary and it’s been around for over 400 years!
I hope they are completely bankrupted by a settlement but it doesn’t change the absolute shame that everyone along the chain of command from the murderer ICE Agent to the President isn’t serving a life sentence for their responsibility for creating the environment that led to her murder.

These ads go in the same category as brazen, easily disproven lies after ICE killings. It’s not about persuasion. It’s a display of power. They could have passed them off as PAC-funded. They added “paid for by the U.S. government” because they want us to know they can break the law with impunity.

Does Maureen Dowd even see the misogyny she casually throws into her fluff pieces? 🙄 “Even Joanne Woodward declined to give an interview about her husband, Paul Newman, for a New York Times Magazine piece because the story was about him, not her.”
I’m starting to think his obsession with renaming stuff is that it represents (meaningless) power that gives him talking points to riff off of instead of saying anything substantive. If he can pivot to talking about “AI vs SI” he’s NOT talking about the hard questions he should be addressing re AI.

This is a great point - the American model often funds research with grants but the companies get the patents & only seek out answers that might be profitable. It’s corporate welfare designed not to heal people but to treat our illnesses as revenue streams subsidized with our tax dollars.
American health care creates no incentive for pharma companies to cure diseases. When you cure a disease, the customers go away. There's no money in that. Curing patients is not a sustainable business model, per Goldman Sachs. news.slashdot.org/story/19/02/...
