My takeaway from reading the whole thing is that it all goes back to Caine being too inexperienced and weak to hold the position he does. He needed a Milley.

The man is the most senior serviceman in the US military and is too cowardly to tell Trump he's crazy, or to resign instead of waging illegal war. He saves his courage for a whining session with the NYT later. A firing squad is too good for him.

The thesis of this entire article is, “everyone knows Trump is dumber than shit but somehow completely at ease leaving the most consequential foreign policy decision of the last 20 years up to him”

Israel's far-right government sees the US as an inferior satellite (good to get money from and to have US use its resources and military lives to pursue far-right Israelis' goal of killing as many people as possible and destroying as much stuff as possible).

Am I off-base in thinking Rubio’s an off-record source for the story and made sure they put in his quote verbatim? It positions him for 2028 as both loyal to Trump and against all the mistakes.

Nobody in the article thinks to consult with Congress or allies, much less let the American people know he's been lying all this time. I guess that would spoil a sneak attack assination set up so well by conducting contemporaneous negotiations. It's all, "What will the emperor decide."

It also doesn't help that Trump hired Stephen Miller to whisper in his ear "You're not just a man. Reality is shaped by your will" for any moments when self doubt might pierce his ego.

A government that believes it is above the law when dealing with our adversaries will believe it is above the law when dealing with its citizens. This concept needs to be understood by the American public. Our own authoritarian actions are never confined beyond our borders. They start from within.
