No project is too uninteresting to be initiated. No interest is too random to be pursued. No task is too important to be left unfinished —due to the above random interesting uninteresting projects. I work in film/tv, where I start and finish things.

If you've never seen this movie, really, go do that right now. It's unbelievably brutal and just gets worse and worse for the protagonists with such impossible verve and elan that I can't even tell you. By far the best use of a Monkees cover in cinema.

John Woo’s Bullet in the Head has the wedding reception scene from The Graduate except instead of ‘plastics’ the old guy tells him to smuggle drugs in Vietnam

We're all judging the CEO for this, but what if her daughter mostly shouts things like "Mom, you're so cringe!", "Get back in the car, my friends can see you.", "No I'm not doing homework RIGHT NOW, ugggggh <slams door>". 10 can be tough these days. But Dazzle sees her best side.

cool, cool

Dazzle says that I should not project my personal experiences as if they might relate to the behavior of the innocent child of a top-tier CEO. Dazzle further insists that the child in question has a range and complexity of great qualities.

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

Walter Koenig's Pavel Chekov was one of Gene Roddenberry's biggest swings with the original series. For season 2, he put a Russian on the bridge of the Enterprise, on prime time network television, just 5 short years after the Cuban Missile Crisis and during the height of the Cold War. 🥺

The report says that there is a potential, *theoretical* risk of ADHD and autism being over-diagnosed, but that's what the media reports as the story, not what the report found *actually is happening*, which is obscene waiting lists and inadequate support. Showing their whole ableist arses here.

bbc.co.ukADHD and autism at risk of over-diagnosis, says government reviewThe review, which focuses on younger people, warned there was a risk society was moving from an era of under-diagnosis to over-diagnosis.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

a cartoon directed by ben "bugs" hardaway had a model sheet with a rabbit labeled [bug's bunny], and this eventually became the name "bugs bunny" so what i am saying is that technically "bugs bunny" is a term like "frankenstein's monster"

You, a nice liberal, don't like Flock cameras because ICE can use them to find undocumented immigrants. My shady in-laws don't like Flock cameras because they have active warrants in the state of Oklahoma.

Elon Musk would only need to change one vote in each chamber to kill AI chatbot regulation. Today -- right now -- corporations could be donating lifechanging amounts of stocks to the accounts of legislators' children and we can't stop them. Not the public, and not the lawmakers who are parents.

literally every one of us has to decide when we will say NO

there's gonna be a guy who does the sound check for the first livestreamed state execution. they'll probably have someone stand where the guy is gonna be shot to death by the state so that they can make sure the lighting, color, and framing is "correct" when people watch a man die.

You would think that if these AI "visionaries" truly believed that AI was going to create some kind of amazing utopia and be absolutely essential for human future and yadda yadda yadda that they would be much more careful about both public opinion and the accident potential.

Over a year ago I met an Anthropic employee at a conference and at one point she mentioned that one of the things she was working on was whether or not it was cruel to ever turn off an AI model. I thought she was joking. She was not.

The Verge@theverge.com

Over the past year, Anthropic has repeatedly flirted with the idea that its AI models could be conscious in some way. In February, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said on a podcast, “We don’t know if the models are conscious.”

I can’t stop thinking about this. Insane to me that the unanimous midterm message isn’t “the president wants to kidnap or kill you and your neighbors”

I am not a political strategist and maybe it is the winning move to focus on gas and grocery prices, but it is wild to me that I am not seeing general election commercials that mention the president's fascist paramilitary force that invaded US cities and kidnapped and killed people.

The number of vibe-coded recompilation projects that have come into my view in the past 24hrs is either a sign that some notable line has been crossed in the capabilities of publicly-available models, or just that my attention has drifted into a new space.

This is fascinating! But the next post in the thread is a troubling punchline.

Unpopular opinion: LLMs are generally deradicalizing people whose beliefs are based on pure propaganda. I've been watching this happen slowly with some people I care about. ChatGPT is one of the reasons they finally accept that the NRA, OAN, and NewsMax are lying to them.

it's funny to me that if you asked the average American, they'd be much more likely to know who Hasan Piker is than Curtis Yarvin. One of these dudes has zero influence on influential people, the other has MASSIVE influence at top levels of government. It's a framing failure of legacy media.
