i feel like your post here is misrepresenting the context then and intentionally inflammatory?

don't have the full thread, but this is the specific example he started his thread on toxicity about he started off his thread with what trans people are doing that justifies bans, in the thread leading up to "why toxicity filters" so no, I don't consider what I said to be a misrepresentation!

I disagree with his conclusion, I disagree with his chain of thought, and I disagree with the context/manner in which he brought it up. Even in a thread about direct harassment of a trans person he can't resist first pointing out what other trans people are doing wrong (being against-TOS)

I think you're just being obtuse about this. It matters that he dropped this toxicity plan offhandedly during a discussion about trans people! This was not a contextless discussion about the abstract principles of moderation, the entire thread was about trans scenarios.

There are many reasons to be both upset about the plan AND the context in which he pitched it. And indeed most people upset about this are upset *by his own words*, standing on their own, because his plan is stupid as hell.

I'm not being obtuse, I'm standing on principles, principles that I think should matter to you and to others. You strongly proclaimed that context was crucial, while also not readily providing any of that context except your short personal interpretation. That sucks & you can and should do better.

What I said about that thread is true and I stand by it. If you want more context than what I posted, you can take it up with the guy who announced a policy goal in the replies, deleted when it wasn't going his way, and reworded later to try to soften it

What you said was not true and you are intentionally trying to inflame outrage. We have got to stop acting like a small group of toxic trans users on this website are a proxy for the trans population or trans people in general.

"this is in a thread about TRANSGENDER PEOPLE": Literally this is true on both sides of the thread. "they are, in his estimation, "doing it wrong"": He specifically is referring to some trans people breaking site rules that he influences/enforces. Clearly he does think they are doing it wrong.

"it's not an abstract moderation discussion": The majority of the discussion thread was about specific situations including a directly quoted harassment post "it's actually about trans people, specifically!": Again, this is very much true. The entire upthread was about trans examples!

What you object to isn't that I'm saying something "untrue" here, but that unlike you, I'm not willing to carve out someone as irrelevant or unrelated to broader trans politics or discussions with an "oh, but they're toxic" This is just the social media version of "oh, but they're a criminal"

This isn't the same as an endorsement of their behavior - you'll note I do not have the "rude" label because I don't go aggro on random people on here. But solidarity is a practical understanding that I have interests, affinities, and goals in common even with someone with very different strategies

We clearly are not going to see eye to eye on this. I think what you're doing, while probably well intentioned, is actually making things a lot worse, and you're intentionally stoking the flames of outrage and misinformation.

Well, I hope you're happy with all of the disproportionate and unncessary outrage and fear you're stoking within the community, distracting from actually important and real things that are happening right now.
