This week has been nuts, super busy, long hours, average sleep, and very little time for fun stuff. At about 11:45pm a couple of nights ago, I thought to myself, should I go to bed, or should I fix the Lamy Safari stub nib I bought ages ago and never really loved? Of course, the fountain pen won.

I picked up this Lamy 1.1mm stub nib a few months back, and it wrote smooth and wet, but it was kind of rounded. It wrote like a broad and didn't have the line variation I was expecting. Exhausted but determined to do something that wasn't work, I busted out my diamond stone and micro mesh.

I quickly got the nib in to a shape that liked and started polishing. By 1am the nib looked great, but just would not write... Blergh! It would hard start, then write ok for a couple of words, then run lean and write really thin before choking out completely. I threw the towel in and went to bed.

Over the next couple of days, in the little scraps of time I could steal, I kept tinkering. Adjusting the grind here, checking gaps, polishing, repolishing, all with super inconsistent results. What was going on? I've done this before. It looks great! WHY WON'T IT WRITE!!! Then it dawned on me.

In a sleep deprived state on the first night, I had damaged the feed 🤦 It looked OK but clearly wasn't giving my nib what it needed. I grabbed a feed from a spare Safari, fitted it to my pen, inked up and crossed my fingers 🤞 OMG it works flawlessly!!! I was stoaked!
