It is with a heavy heart that we relay the news of the passing of legendary Pirates and National Baseball Hall of Famer, Bill Mazeroski. Maz was a 7-time All-Star who hit the greatest home run in baseball history. He was a beloved member of the Pirates family and he will be deeply missed.

Did the announcer first say that the HR made the score “ten to nothing?” Thanks for posting. If I ever got to be in attendance for one sporting event from history, this would be my clear choice.

You got me on the Game 7 part. Me, I'm partial to the Bobby Thompson shot. Also given the context Kirk Gibson in 1986 has to be considered. And, admittedly, kind of personally, you'll never beat Carlton Fisk in game 6!

This is only a tangential connection to the moment, but it’s a great, great memory for me. I was 5 years old, playing in the yard with my dog at our home in Illinois, and my Cardinals fan mom came outside to tell me excitedly that the Pirates had just homered to win the World Series. RIP, Maz.
