I just love watching ballplayers make their MLB debut, and greatly enjoy the family interviews during the broadcast. Way to go, Cooper Hjerpe. That was terrific. (And a shoutout to Leo Bernal. How great has he been since getting called up?!) #STLCards

I just saw a minor—and I mean minor—typographical error in The New Yorker and it made me irrationally gleeful. This morning I saw a ridiculous error in a DM Register headline and it made me predictably disdainful. The Register is shockingly regular with grammatical and spelling errors.

I loved the World Cup, even as I acknowledge the upsetting treatment of the Iranian team and the unwarranted lifting of Balogun’s suspension. (I’m still a fan, Flo.) It helps that Spain are my guys and have been for years. Tell you what, though. I’ll never again believe in the USMNT.

After an utterly miserable sports evening—U.S. humiliated by Belgium, Cardinals coughing up a 3-0 lead to lose—it’s good to have a sharply written and entertaining book to turn to. Thank you, Colson Whitehead and Harlem Shuffle.

The Cardinals are threatening to hit a wall right around the same time they did in 2025.

The Cardinals have scored one run in 18 innings at bat against Marlins pitching. QED, tomorrow they will try not to get swept.

Funny one from this week’s New Yorker. (And unusual for that magazine.) Dusty Baker might have been in the on-deck circle for Hank Aaron’s 715th, but I can’t imagine he was in the batter’s box.

If the tarps off guys in StL have enough style they should chant “underrated” at PCA tonight. He’s having too much fun shoving “overrated” back at them.

Church made a great, great play on that ball Witt hit. It was smoked. If Church doesn’t lay out and snag that, only Fermin could have stopped an inside-the-park homer and he had a long way to go. Church surely saved a run. #STLCards

God, Pozo just swings at everything. 😂 I love him. I’m at an age that I root for all these young men and their baseball dreams, and the story of his homeless family living out of a car grabs my heart. I hope he makes an MLB salary for years. #STLCards

I don’t think you’re crazy. I also don’t feel crazy for thinking a 78-year-old was not a good choice either. I don’t know if the problem lies with Maine or with the Democratic Party. I suspect the latter.

I feel like I am being gaslit about the Platner thing. Like *I* am somehow the crazy person for drawing the line at accepting nazis or nazi-curious candidates. Like *I* am being unreasonable to doubt that a rape-apologist has anything useful to contribute to public policy. What is this world.

Holy crackers, Portsmouth!!! You know you are living right when your keeper is man of the match and you grab a winner at the death, as they say. (To American ears that phrase is amusing.) Big cheers, men! #Pompey

"The way some of these other immigrants are getting treated in our country right now is a travesty and a disgrace... I think what’s going on in our country — what we’re doing to some of these amazing immigrants, is really unfortunate and it’s really sad." - Charles Barkley on CBS

Coming out of spring training one part of the Cards’ roster I thought would be pretty solid was the bullpen. Maybe it will be. But this first series has been rough rough rough. #STLCards

@hochman314.bsky.social Doesn’t look like you’re on Bluesky much but I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your column on Lynn McGlothen. Loved all the quotes from guys who played with him and from his family. I remember McGlothen. Hadn’t thought of him in ages. Well done.

Here’s a little paragraph you don’t read every day, in an article in this morning’s Register about Arizona possibly approving firing squads to implement the death penalty:

Arizona’s primary execution method used to be hanging, but that changed after the gruesome 1930 execution of convicted murderer Eva Dugan. The rope decapitated Dugan as she fell through the gallows’ trap door and her head rolled to the feet of traumatized witnesses.

Spanish PM Sánchez responds to Trump: "Spain is against this disaster... Govts are here to improve people's lives... It is absolutely unacceptable that those leaders who are unable to fulfill that mission use the smoke of war to hide their failure, and in the process, fill the pockets of a few."

A UAE investor secretly gave Trump $187 million and his top Middle East envoy $31 million. And then Trump gave that investor access to sensitive defense technology that broke decades of national security precedent. Brazen, open corruption. And we shouldn't pretend it's normal.

Refreshing Bluesky repeatedly for confirmation/details of a Brendan Donovan trade. I need more sources for breaking news. I’m a little nervous to hear the Rays are involved. They seem to do pretty dang well in trades. #STLCards
