My AMD computer works well but has some 'personality' when booting. My understanding is that this is kinda common. It hangs while trying to load the bios or something early. It is more likely the motherboard but it's annoying.

Ever since Ryzen AMD has become an incredible option again, especially with this 13th/14th gen trash. Don't be a fan of brands, be a fan of good products (which currently is AMD, no matter what some Intel fanboys say)

Did the exact same thing for the same reason and that was coming from a 13900k, first AMD desktop in many years but happily been using them at 1U servers for ages, so asides some bad bios bugs from asus, its been smooth sailing post updates.

I had a similar problem with the ASUS laptop I used prior to the machine I had now. Couldn't watch a video on YT without the risk of it BSODing after trying to fix it over and over. Heck, I remember my first clear of Enter the Gungeon was ruined by that piece of crap BSODing on the final shot.

I got lucky with this one, I think. The only issue I observed was having to click away some shader cache warnings. Once the BIOS updates rolled out I updated and switched to the Intel Extreme setting and those warnings went away as well. Not a single BSOD in any context so far. Fingers crossed..

I'm so damn happy to see AMD turn their CPU business around and hit home run after home run with Ryzen Very glad I've done the switch over and so far I don't see myself going back to Intel tbh

AMD has done great but if Intel will tank then that only means less competition and prices will skyrocket even more than they already have. Intel handled this situation really bad and their replies for extended warranty, etc didn't give any hope for the near future

ARM definitely is making really good progress and I hope that keeps going strong As for RISC isn't the "main issue" with that the associated cost? In which case, let's hope production and other associated cost for that will go doing in the future, too With more (good) competition we'll benefit

Eh i don't know - I've had the pleasure to test a 6700 XT for about 2 weeks recently and haven't had any issues (besides FreeSync being on and acting funky with my HDMI Matrix whenever it switched refresh rates causing the screen to go black)

I was an Intel person, until I had bsod and USB3 controller compatibility issues on the on the x79 platform, I transitioned to an amd am4 platform with an 5950x and I've been loving computing life since, at this rate I don't think I'll ever go back to intel

You want to hear something fun Thor? I recently build my first ever PC, using a Dutch PC part picker. When looking at graphics and processors, i decided to go with a AMD processor due to budget to price performance (On paper at least, i am not good with technical stuff) Best decision ever lol

Don't blame ya Thor. When I upgraded last (Oct '23), the option I had was have redonkulous power draw and insane temps, or choose something more efficient. I ended up getting a 7900 (non x or x3d) turning PBO on for when it's needed. Never looked back. Make sure your new bios is up to date first!

For clarity, previous Build was a 8700K, 32 GB ram and 3080 12Gig. Again the 3080 12 gig is almost as fast as a Ti, but without the bios problems as reported by J2C. Current build 7900, 32Gb 6000Hz Ram (using PBO 2) and the same 3080 12G.

It's quite wild - and working for a healthcare provider that used xeons for servers and storage, watching the invoices for the switch to AMD hardware was crazy too.

As a long time AMD user myself, I can say that even without the Intel failures, going AMD atm is probably the right choice. I've been with them for years and they've always done me much better than Intel ever has

Thor said Ryzen 7 has to less computing power (8 cores compared to 16 slightly slower of the 7950X3D). Of course a 9950X3D or 9900X3D would be a better choice, because AMD changed the package with CCD on top. But they won't be avaiable before end Jan/early Feb next year and Thor can't wait that long

That's wild dude I have only used intel my whole life. Hopefully they can get there shit together dude otherwise I'll have to make the shift in the future as well. Luckily I got the 13th gen cpu so hopefully I can avoid the BSOD issue at least.

AMD has been a good choice for a long time. I'm not fanboying here, I'm just saying that Intel and AMD have both been good for a while. Legitimate competition makes me happy. Customers reacting with their dollars this way - also makes me happy.

Recently got a 13th gen intel and while it's actually been running fine with no issues, knowing that the current chips have a problem that can cause them to fry themselves without a bios update I may also switch over to AMD next time I need an upgrade. Might also swap Mobo brands too...

Last I saw, Intel swears they fixed the problem with the microcode... not sure I believe them, but they have issued updates. Not that that would fix your bottled cpu, just prevent further degradation or damage in cpus that haven't experienced it yet.

Did you run the Intel processor self-diagnostic tool by any chance? If it reports anomalous results, Intel should replace your CPU. Damage to new CPUs seems to have stopped when using most recent BIOS. (Though already-damaged silicon is damaged forever)

Yep, Intel started making decisions to prioritize profit over engineering when they paid off Dell and other mfgs to not offer any AMD powered systems. AMD didn't recover from the income loss till Ryzen, and in the meantime Intel put money men in charge and engineering second. Coming home to roost.

Still have i5 8600K from 2017. ticking away in my PC. OC'ed to 5GHz and enough for every game I throw at it. Paired it with RTX 4070. I'm hoping it will live until ZEN 6 comes out so I can build a new rig then.

Hence why I kept my Intel i9-9900 and added an AMD RX 7900 GRE Sapphire Nitro+. I know, a strange mixture but it avoided the 13/14 gen issue, etc. Horizon FW at 120 FPS in 4K with this setup is fine for me. I’m good for 2 or 3 years then I will transition to AMD CPU. Thanks for all that you do.

Ok i was wondering. Cause my cpu feels like it's running over 100c but has not gone into emergency shutdown. I do think it does make my cpu usage always at max when I look in task manager and I'm barely running anything. Also wondering if I have an unknown malicious program that eats CPU

Do you have a utility to actually check the temp? I think AMD cpus are good a little over 100c but that's still high enough I'd be a little concerned unless it's only doing it under heavy load. Might also want a load monitor, graphics aren't a good way to judge cpu load

Have you confirmed the temperatures with monitoring software such as HWiNFO? What you've described doesn't sound normal, your CPU shouldn't be doing much while idle (my example with just Firefox open)

Most graphics settings do not impact the CPU, so your CPU would run similarly even at higher settings. Either get a better CPU cooler or reapply your thermal paste. As for your first point, the CPU that can utilise the most GPU currently is an AMD one.

AMD had problems in the past as well. But this whole thing with raptor lake is messed up, despite Intel's other problems. Worst thing is they won't replace damaged chips and be like "We don't care, people will buy our next gen anyway. In a few years no one will remember".

I’ve also made the switch to AMD and honestly I haven’t looked back. Intel are making great moves with Budget GPUs but they need to sure up their quality control of their productions

AMD is the way until Intel figures out the CPU end of the market again. But GPUs are finally starting to look good for them! I just hope that Amd isn't getting lazy from the lack of valid competition. Healthy competition is good for all.

Something I like about AMD's business is that they actually support their sockets for a lot longer than Intel. They released AM5 recently, but still pumped out another round of AM4 chips despite that. If you bought into OG ryzen 1k, you had 4 generations of upgrades. Baller.

I'm debating too. I'm running a Skylake chip so Windows 11 is a no go for me. Waiting to see what Intel does in the spring with the next generation chips.

i fixed the BSODs and crashes by going in my bios and modifying the P-Core ratio to 48x, which neuters my CPU and caps it at 4.8Ghz. i spent half my dev time just crashing and trying to fix it thanks intel :) you should put an intel reference in heartbound lol
