This is the problem with Americans, the assumption of normalcy. The idea that things will continue even if we're a little beaten up. There's no guarantee of more elections. Trump could easily declare martial law, suspend habeas corpus and elections or just ignore the constitution altogether.

I believe this is an incorrect point. There can be no countdown til the end of Trump’s time in office as the end of our struggle to maintain democracy. The truth is Republican conservatives are dismantling our system of government and they will not be destroyed by Trump leaving office.
