Interest payments on the debt — the fastest growing part of the federal budget — exceed defense spending. As former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen said in 2010, the debt is the “most significant threat to national security.”

Meanwhile, drone technology is giving weaker powers an asymmetrical advantage. America doesn’t need a $1.5 trillion military, it needs one it’s willing to break, and can afford to replace.

The real question is what sort of military does the United States actually need for defense, not offensive force projection of an imperial power? Which is the wars in both Iraq and Iran as well as most US military actions since WW2. Maybe the entire plan not matter how one funds it is evil.

i try to wrap my mind around how our country is going to survive, but i can't. the breakup of the united states in inevitable.

As long as the 1% own stock in for profit defense contractors, or own PE firms that back defense contractors the budget will continue to balloon & we will continue to use million $ weapons against 5 figure weapons. It’s all a big Ponzi scheme, and the tax payer is always at the bottom of the pyramid

It’s not just the direct impact. The US has been able to leverage access to its air technology for foreign policy. The UAE and F35’s, Turkey voting Sweden into NATO for F-16’s, right back to Egypt getting F-4’s as part of the Camp David deal. Drone tech is edging that bargaining chip off the table.
