Interest payments on the debt — the fastest growing part of the federal budget — exceed defense spending. As former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen said in 2010, the debt is the “most significant threat to national security.”

This administration is not about paying debt, they are about making money for themselves so "they" are not in debt, let the American people pay the interest bill The consumer nation eats its own

Do you honestly believe that the national debt will ever be paid down, or should be? It's part of the money supply, ffs. And the government is *not* like a household. Such basic stuff, yet it flies clear over your head. Astounding.

It’s not that the debt will be paid down: it’s the crippling effect of higher bond yields; money that could be going to improve the lives of people will instead be given to bond holders. The neat trick is that a lot of those bond holders bought the bonds with money they should have paid in taxes.

Meanwhile, drone technology is giving weaker powers an asymmetrical advantage. America doesn’t need a $1.5 trillion military, it needs one it’s willing to break, and can afford to replace.

The real question is what sort of military does the United States actually need for defense, not offensive force projection of an imperial power? Which is the wars in both Iraq and Iran as well as most US military actions since WW2. Maybe the entire plan not matter how one funds it is evil.

i try to wrap my mind around how our country is going to survive, but i can't. the breakup of the united states in inevitable.

As long as the 1% own stock in for profit defense contractors, or own PE firms that back defense contractors the budget will continue to balloon & we will continue to use million $ weapons against 5 figure weapons. It’s all a big Ponzi scheme, and the tax payer is always at the bottom of the pyramid

It’s not just the direct impact. The US has been able to leverage access to its air technology for foreign policy. The UAE and F35’s, Turkey voting Sweden into NATO for F-16’s, right back to Egypt getting F-4’s as part of the Camp David deal. Drone tech is edging that bargaining chip off the table.

If so, then Republican Party commitment to the lie of trickle down economics might be the underlying cause of the greatest threat to national security. It translates in practice into undermining the policies that contribute to future economic growth via investment in infrastructure, education, etc.

Climate change ranks right up there with the federal debt for being significant threat to national security. Notice how the right ignores that factor. The world knows solar/wind power is the way to go, but current U.S. leadership is dangerously ignoring it.
