A former guard at a Tennessee youth prison claims she was fired after calling 911 during an attack on another employee. “I thought I’d done something to save somebody’s life,” she said. “You shouldn’t have to choose a person’s life over your job.”

Welcome to the world of healthcare. Specifically for-profit healthcare and likely for-profit prisons. Never side with the employees being attacked, targeted, harmed etc.

For profit prisons should be abolished. The business model relies on keeping the cells full in order to maximize profits. Without external oversight there's no incentive for them to respect the rights of the incarcerated. They will abuse their wards to save a penny. Cover up abuses to save a dime.

While I agree, I don't think state owned facilities is a simple resolution. A bigger rethink is needed on what the purpose of prisons is, who should and shouldn't be incarcerated, how they are monitored and the powers of the monitors. While there is no profit motive for a state run prison how they

Provide help for people with mental and learning disabilities? Now you're just talking crazy! State run facilities could work if they were serious about helping instead of punishing. Effective triage on intake to find out who is who and treat them accordingly. But that would require actual care.

To make it plain, I agree. There is no simple solution, but solutions could be found if we as a people were serious about reform, but that would remove the big bad boogeymen politicians love to use to show they are "serious about crime".

operate & who they hold is subject to political posturing. Governing parties that are flailing, or their challengers, can't resist the law & order tack. Whip up fear of crime & promise hard measures. We see public services cut & people with MH problems & learning disabilities lacking support ending

up in prison. Cost of imprisoning them exceeds the cost of the services that would have supported them & steered them away from offending behaviour. Most agree that the aim should be to rehabilitate offenders, but actually existing systems look as though they were designed to increase offending.

You’re making it too complicated. For profit prisons are wrong because they have the incentive to mistreat prisoners for higher profits and because they also lobby for legislation that keeps them filled to capacity.

It's very clear by now that honestly describing any of the disasters this administration is causing will be denied and the messenger will be attacked. It's all very fascist.

Prisons for Profit have been proven to break the laws, treat inmates horribly and feed them literal maggots. It is disgusting that a government function should prioritize profit over people.

Honestly the way people stomp around down here...I don't think they care that the prisons are raping their bank accounts and stealing their children. They just consider that a normal Tuesday. They know. They don't give a shit.

If this is not okay with your values (regardless of Party) you can do something about it. Vote these torturers of people of all ages out of office and really save the children as well as all of the incarcerated adults of all ages. You have that power. All you have to do is show up and vote them out

Doesn’t sound good or look good what’s happening a these private youth prisons ? That’s why we have issues with young people today, by being abused in these facilities and not getting the help they deserve and need!

Yep. I worked at a bank/insurance agency, our boss was horrific. I, being the biggest mouth of our department, complained to the next up boss. I was targeted/picked on and left weeks later. Within the next 6 months, 9 other employees left because of her. Mean boss is still there. 😡

A prison should NEVER be for profit. It is for the rehabilitation of people. That is incompatible with profit. And while I know it may not be possible for some people to be rehabilitated, the goal should always be to help people become the best versions of themselves, whether incarcerated or not.

#30million8/30 Using the profound legal theory that enough is enough. When will it be enough? No Kings fucked us. 50501 is not organizing mass protests. When do we take it upon ourselves to spread the word about a self initiated mass protest? NATIONWIDE PROTEST 8/30 END FASCISM IN AMERICA!

Like here in the UK, those issues mustn't be revealed. Lots of deaths under the contracts with private companies. Why doesn't the West want 2 employ their own citizens? 😤 Why doesn't the West manage its own public services in-house, rather than by private and forgein companies? 😤🤬🤬🤬

Something to do with campaign donations from the Managers/owners of these horrible facilities. Tenn has a history of this - paying off Judges to send juveniles to more restricted (& costly) facilities - rather than facilities for rehab. Trump denies irrefutable evidence— these Monsters do as well.😡

V confirms this claim checks out. News investigations into Tennessee youth prisons revealed a toxic culture of retaliation, including a guard being fired for calling 911 to help an attacked coworker. Real-time fact-checks on your feed: https://veratify.ai Errors or comments: info@veratify.ai

For-profit prisons are an abomination. We already incarcerate more people per capita than any other country in the world. The last thing we need is a profit motivation to keep them at full capacity or beyond.

yea thats how TN works, grew up in north west tn, they love private companies and right to work laws because they can have more excuses for deniability while looking the other way to count money they either save or get as a laundered bribe
