Growing up in 90s London was just swallowing clouds of diesel smoke. It's so, so much better today. Still a big city and a lot of problems come with that. But the air is breathable.
Earlier today I walked past some workers filling in a pothole with asphalt and I realised when it smelled it how strange it was. You used to smell on practically a daily basis.
We do! Apparently the rate of Londoners being diagnosed with asthma and other lung diseases has gone down, because we are breathing in much less poisonous fumes from vehicles.
The US had a good renewable energy policy under President Biden, but the orange asshat stopped it. The need for gas and oil could be reduced if clean energy projects would continue…
Pretty sure everyone in OSE would love to somehow make every car and bus electric… shockingly they don’t have the authority to do that. Wrong fuckin finger pointing here.
The tenacious blob in the far west is Heathrow, correct? Not much to do about that except build a couple more regional airports, and that would be NIMBYed to death.
My mom (from Vancouver, of all cities lol) was amazed at how clean the air was in London for a gigantic city of its size, and also at both the lack of traffic in the city core and the ease of using public transit. Her only complaint was at how busy and packed the Underground was, lol.
