It took Japan attacking Pearl Harbor for the last national martial law declaration. It lasted 3 years and elections still took place... There would be no concealing their intentions now and we'd just go straight to a federal secession/civil war scenario. (I'm hoping they're all too stupid)

I think this might signal what is ahead& what to expect: the honorable, experienced commanders will be in the way when trump orders the unthinkable. And perhaps with less cynicism, it simply matches the entire MO of this maga admin: Hegseth, rfk Jr, Patel, etc...incompetent followers.
