In general the amount of steps to unsubscribe for things is the sort of thing I'd have tracked back when I used to post regular on twitter about hostile design patterns. All that dark patterns stuff and we basically lost the plot, hostile interaction architecture won. AI will supercharge it.

pretty incredible how it takes 1 click to pay with paypal and then - 3 clicks to find your subscriptions ( settings > payments > autopay) + - 4 clicks to cancel a subscription (name > stop paying > are you sure? > give a reason ) 7 clicks!! to cancel one. plus you need to read all the menus...

I’ve given up trying to cancel my kids’ SoundCloud that I bought when she had a 3 day phase of wanting to learn to DJ. It’s been like a year she doesn’t know her username or the email she used so I’m just stuck.

I’m old and boring enough to not even know what SoundCloud is. I just see it on my bank statement once a month and make another vein attempt to cancel.

you can call the bank and have them block the payments permanently and they will. Sometimes, they'll even refund you for past ones, that's what USAA did for me once in the similar situation some years ago. It'll never let you use the site again but that's okay in your case.

I was trying to cancel my Dropbox account, but they've made it so now I have to go create a DocuSign account, link the two, and then cancel them both. At least that's what I *think* I understood before I just said fuck it and closed the browser.
