all this said the best thing that could be done for a "new Mass Effect" is to make a science fiction epic RPG that's built on the SF of the last 20 years the way ME was built on the SF of the 20 years before it

it is a very strange argument to say that Mass Effect could only possibly be made by Bioware when we just had the world go crazy over Baldur's Gate 3 made by Europeans a few years ago

This is basically what I want. I want the people for whom Mass Effect was a formative experience of their youth or young adulthood to have it in their back pocket toolkit of "Things That Inspired Me," and then to go forth and make new things.

and for them to have actually experienced art other than popular video games when they do that. Like ME was pulling strands in from all over pop culture, but Andromeda felt like it was just pulling from ME

We already GOT our Startide Rising/Babylon 5/Hyperion shooty RPG, and it was a great time, now it's time for an Expanse/Gideon the Ninth/Memory Called Empire slashy RPG

We are, quite literally, getting an Expanse action-RPG next year, so at the very least we have that.

it is the most powerful experience in genre fiction you can have. that experience might be hate, but if it's love, oh man

I guess my feeling is that as much as I didn't like Dragon Age 2, I loved Inquisiton (haven't been able to play Veilguard yet), so I'm hoping that the next people to make a Mass Effect can find the spirit of that game (an exploration RPG with an emphasis on party relationship and development)
