Extrapolating from my Fable usage during the "First Taste is Free" period, I will be on the hook for about $6,000/mo in order to keep using it.

Spent about $20 USD of my own money on AI services so far (total). Still plenty of free services / models and sponsorships for dabbling in side projects and personal tasks.

That's admirable, but it's also somewhat of a privilege to be able to say that. Some of us are trapped in a Red Queen's Race, you know?

Personally I'm drowning in a sea of other people's slop. If I didn't have my own slop machine to burn through it all, I would never get anything done. I run 27B-ish class MoE models at home. The hardware was expensive (and costs more every day). That class of models is not sufficient to the task.

For better or worse, the nature of what it means to produce software as a collective exercise has changed dramatically. If you don't feel the pressure to use these tools, I expect you are working in a sheltered niche.

I never said I don't use those tools? I just said I'm chasing the free models and deals for OSS projects. Either way, when I asked if you were kidding, I was referring specifically to your usage of "privilege" - not sure if you were ironic or not.
