Alright, time to visit IBC, the international broadcasting convention! I am just visiting, and seeing what other industries are doing when it comes to tools. Starting off with this enormous camera crane that you can try out!

(So, my plan today was to cross-post the conference using Indigo by @anilineapps.bsky.social, but I am sad to report it is not up for prime time usage yet. It constantly disconnects accounts, fails to upload posts, fails specifically on video uploads, and has a very confusing interface for threads)

(Manually dual posting works fine, but is too time intensive. Maybe I’ll come back to it in the future, but for now I’ll only resume this thread on bluesky.)

I would love to see more physical level design creations like this. Usually you only see characters, or vehicles, but this is a whole level! I also appreciate how silly it looks to have a bridge covered in chest high boxes. You can instantly tell it’s a videogame

Already spotted two emmys so far. Now that I am thinking about it, it’s kinda interesting how I only ever see awards displayed at IGF booths at game conferences. Makes sense I guess, because it’s the game winning it, and it’s only shown one time, one year I’d still like folks to rep their wins more

I still wonder how these could be used in editors. Imagine editing a material in Unreal, Unity, Godot, Blender, anything, and just softly moving a dial instead of having to type different numbers.

I've had similar ideas. I even got a DIY macropad kit with a dial, but haven't gotten around to assembling it yet :P The mechanical keyboard hobbyists have some legitimately nice options that are, presumably, way cheaper than professional versions like that one.

I’ve made prototypes but the time I takes to use a mouse to assign a property to a button or knob negates the benefit of the button or knob, even in an ideal workflow. So this only works if you’re changing the same property over and over, which doesn’t happen in game dev in practice.

I really like hardware solutions for professional daily workflows. It adds so much that a 2D screen UI cannot add. Most of all: A ‘feeling’ for the values
