1. Hey folks: My pal (and recent Oscar nominee!) Pamela Ribon is making a documentary on Texas' UIL One Act Play competition, where teens compete statewide for theatrical glory. She's hoping for donations for post-production work and @scalzifamily.foundation is matching funds. www.oneactfilm.com

Sanger High school. Back in the 76-77 school year. I didn't get to appear on stage. Since I was also in band, I had to play Gabriel blowing his horn to wake up the two characters for resurrection day.

They didn’t make it to state or even close, but they advanced to the second round. He also won gold in the first round for his acting, which he was especially pleased about. Theatre has been so great for him.

I grew up in small-town Texas and UIL was a big thing for us. My high school years we did really well in our division (we were barely big enough to be an "A" school). I competed in Science not acting, but "One Act" is a worthwhile thing to contribute to and I expect it will feed my nostalgia.

Personally loved UIL one act - although we never made it past regionals. It was one time when our little team sport felt celebrated up there with the ones that involved bashing into each other. Theater saves.
