One perennial issue with right-wing types has been their opinion that they're always the smartest person in the room, and, also perennially, how whiny and discomfited they get when it's shown that they are not and that their cheap rhetorical tricks and patterns don't work on everyone.

I grew up Libertarian and around think tank dudes. "Insufferable" hardly covers it. Their ignorance is always better than someone else's real-world experience.

Seriously. I was really worried we'd have competent leadership in Trump 2.0 but instead he just got rid of everybody who tried to steer them in the right direction and spend an absolute shit show from jump Street technically from before jump Street

It’s a proven fact: it’s the folks proclaiming certainty on all the things that suck up the oxygen in the room—and feed the social media machines with their proclamations. Meanwhile, I’m back here in the “well actually “ group”…

When it comes to logic, most people go through four stages. (1) Log-what? (2) Treats lists of fallacies as strategy guides. (3) Thinks pointing out fallacies is a substitute for making their own argument. (4) Makes their own logical arguments. The top 5% in right-wing spaces reach (3).

A family member to the tee. Pokes the bear, then when you point out the obvious fallacies in their position, accuses you of “bringing up politics” (ummm no that was you), and then says “I’m done” and cuts off conversation. I am sooo tired of all of this.

Their willful ignorance of history is especially helpful because it means we at least have the advantage of a playbook for how fascism has been defeated in the past and we know they won't be ready if we use it because they haven't bothered to read it.
