I wonder how much the Internet giving everybody access to instant and free porn of every variety imaginable has influenced our era of “no sex in movies please, we’re Hollywood.” Perhaps sex scenes in big movies were more marketable in the days when there was a far more restricted smut supply?

I think you’re on to something here, because I think it trained people to be like “sex on the screen is something I see by myself in a darkened room, and I perceive it to be some level of shameful” so they’re uncomfortable seeing it outside of that context
