Less nihilism but misanthropy. Work in any STEM field that involves dealing with the public (especially in tech where most deal with the public directly instead of through some sort of communicators), you easily come away with the idea that "people are stupid, selfish, and cruel."

True. Although a lot of problems, at least on the tech side, is that we don't get to choose who we interact with. A person being abusive on a customer service call? You can hang up on them. You can't exactly ban some idiot from using your tech. And when you do develop the tech to do so, they call
