Python was awarded a funding grant, funding grant asked Python foundation to remove all diversity and inclusion initiatives they have. Python foundation said no and rejected the grant. If you use Python, send a few dollars to the charity to keep it going. I’m pushing a dono on behalf of ScamGuard.

"Hello, Python? Do you employ any Asians in you software development team?" I'm not sure the anti-DEI people understand anything about what people in the non-white manosphere actually do.

Thank you for not bowing down even when it's not an insignificant amount of money compared to your annual budget 💖💖💖 I sent the PSF blog message to colleagues (we work for a big chip design company and do a looot of thing in python with regards to an internal tool) inciting them to donate

I know, I'm just saying that AI tools overwhelmingly use Python. It really exposes the contradictions in what some of the worst people claim to care about

mate, they couldn't have predicted like a decade+ ago when the language was being first developed that some assholes would use its suitability for certain types of programming to push turbocharged probability math into literally everything.

it's a programming language you can make literally anything with it, the language itself does not dictate what you can do with it. python became the gold standard for LLM tooling because python was already widely used in mathematical circles where modern AI tech originated (see jupyter notebook etc)

this is very cool of python but i will continue to not use it out of spite of them using whitespace for formatting, you do not use whitespace for formatting. whitespace is cosmetic and nothing more

I know this is tangential to the point, but: dang, if that's the poison to taking a US NSF grant now, good on Python for rejecting it. And good on any developers put in a similar position, who instead reject, and choose alternate sources of funding over signing their souls to this nonsense.

I think you missed that in 2018 he stepped down from Python and then in 2020 he joined Microsoft. He also has not been on the Python board since 2019. This is all in the article you linked. That said, Python isn’t set up in the way you are implying.

PS if you use a Mac, Linux, play Eve Online, use Reddit, Youtube, or Spotify Then you use Python, even if you don't use those you certainly use something that relies on it. Many linux distros have python routines woven into them, and linux basically runs the internet.

While it isn’t the $1.5million (over 2yrs) that they lost by rejecting this grant, the community rallied around Python and brought in $65k in one day alone. That’s mostly from people chipping in $10. Incredible! As someone who believes in FOSS, seeing people band together for better is awesome!

In the past day we raised $65K+ USD and are thrilled to welcome 137 new Supporting Members! We truly hope you continue to follow us and share this story and more as we kick off our annual fundraiser in November. Thinking about becoming a PSF member? Info: www.python.org/psf/membersh...
