A little bit of green can make a big change. Observe the contrast on the same street. The asphalt road registered 33 degrees Celsius, while the newly installed semi-hardened parking lots showed a considerably lower temperature of 21 degrees Celsius. 📸 Gina Kranendonk, Rotterdam 🇳🇱

For family reasons, I moved to a location with a subtropical climate. They have the worst kind of development - massive empty asphalt parking lots everywhere. In green spaces, it’s tolerable. Out in the “business districts” it’s insufferably hot.

Driveways don't see heavy loads. We installed recycled plastic interlocking tiles, even without a sandbed underneath, when we needed a driveway for homecharging our EV. Photo was taken 6 weeks after sowing. Almost looks like a normal lawn now.
