This might not have been the war Ukraine wanted to fight in an ideal world, but the strategy has matched its strengths and the allied capabilities to a tee. Given the state of play in February 2022, it was the best strategy that could be pursued.

President Zelenskyy:
Kyiv hopes to have a technical meeting with Russia and the United States between November 6 and 10, but acknowledged that the venue could change due to the situation in the Middle East.
"In any case, there will be a trilateral meeting at the technical level in Abu Dhabi.
CPSC port investigators have a very important job - stop dangerous products at the ports before those products can get inside your home.

Some 80% of respondents back the continued strikes, even if Washington restricts intelligence sharing or Starlink operations. Only 11% said Ukraine should pause the attacks, despite Russia's ongoing attacks on the Ukrainian energy grid, according to the survey.
The origin of the Royal Marines can be traced back to 28 October 1664, when the Duke of York and Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot was established in preparation for the Second Anglo-Dutch War. It was formed with an initial force of 1,200 infantrymen recruited from the Trained Bands of London.
I am saddened to hear of the passing of Dolores Huerta, a champion for civil rights and a hero to working people around the world.
Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she changed and the generations she inspired.

Faruqui, responding to this, has a question about one of the cases. He reads aloud from a case stating that a preliminary inquiry is an "investigation" into the "reasonableness" of the charges. Isn't that exactly what defense counsel is getting at w/ their questions re: animus & origins?
On July 17 -- the very next day -- Patel directed the investigation into Floris and others.
Witt said they started by looking at potential charges related to the Albany IIR recall. But eventually the focus shifted to Floris and Benavides' Congressional testimony about the Hunter Biden laptop.

Very sad story; please note: AI does not tap into some arcane platonic realm of new knowledge. It is not a portal to the optimal or even the logical. It is a word-guessing algorithm built on post-hoc statistical harvesting of unselected stuff that humans have written, and is very frequently wrong.
Gut punch of a story about an Amazon engineer who trusted ChatGPT-4o to manage and reduce her seizure med dosages. You'd hope someone who made it into a top engineering position would have known the limits of AI circa May 2024

There has been nothing magical about the candidates in Hungary, Serbia, or Brazil. It was the electorate smartening up to vote for good enough, not to hold out for perfect and abstain until then.
When I read stories about informed, intelligent people falling prey to this stuff, I keep coming back to the phrase "we slip and feel beguiled" in @olivia.science et al's paper "Understanding Artificial Neural Networks: Mysterianism about Known Mechanism is Mysticism"
Systems designed to beguile.

There are a lot of utterly clueless judgmental comments on this article. I have the same condition she did. I’m on the same drug (lamotrigine) at almost the same dosage (300mg for me). For me, it’s not enough, so I’m ALSO on Keppra. Those two together almost completely control the seizures.
The left all over the world needs to stop whatever they’re doing and pay very close attention to what just happened in Brazil. In a matter of 3 weeks, an organic, grassroots movement was born, took back social media, reclaimed the mantle of fun in politics, and won the election in the process.

This is the shit that sucks the most. You cannot defend yourself on here because that’s blood in the water for every bad faith vulture to come peck at you.
Seeing so many people call out a big account who’s been playing this game today has been life-affirming. Seriously, thank you.
Yesterday, Alice Rufo, the Deputy Minister of the Armed Forces, confirmed that France will indeed begin training Ukrainian pilots in the coming days to fly Rafale fighter aircraft.

1/ Vladimir Putin seems to have decided that protecting his palace at Valdai is more important than protecting Russia's vulnerable factories and oil refineries. A few bold Russian warbloggers are questioning why scarce air defence assets are being diverted for Putin's benefit. ⬇️
Ukraine is the most heavily mined country in the world after the start of the Russian full-scale invasion. Putting a Russian in charge of mine action is...well, it's hard to find a name for it.
