I've been trying for a while to make a shader that creates a 1px outline around the sides and backs for terrain on top of another terrain, to create a clear divide and sense of depth. How do you like the look so far? Helpful? (don't mind the tileset, it's still wyp lol)

Ohhh it's coming together. I'd keep the shader outline for the inner elements in the terrain but not for the board edges

Thanks! Oh that sounds interesting, but would you add border to things like grass patches, flowers, pebbles? Or to the inner terrain?

There's also an inbetween option: you could have outlines that aren't black but that are a darker and more saturated version of the base color of the sprite (so dark green for grass patches). I remember a few good YT videos going over multiple outline styles that you can check out

I am on the same boat! Sometimes I really want to expand the pallette and 95% of the time I hold back because I'm a bit lazy and it'd also make me go back and repaint all the sprites (doable just tedious)... So I think it's ok to revisit your pallette every so often

Yeah absolutely! And I also think there's a beauty in keeping it tight you know? I feel constraints like these can be a great tool for creativity. But I'll give it a try, 24 is very little color variations 🫪

No totally; you don't want to be too loose with it. At this point I'm thinking about this more in terms of slide (e.g. light cream to dark purple). I'm very open minded about turning the knobs (say on my green slide) or adding a shade...
