14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

Just think about how much more dangerous and aggressive delusional bicyclists would be if they had a car

In all seriousness: as a dedicated but schlubby bicycle commuter I had to retrain myself when after mostly not driving for a decade I started again, because I was too used to straining for every bit of acceleration and once I was behind the wheel of a car accelerating was misleadingly effortless.

A drunk blind bicyclist juggling chainsaws while breathing fire going the wrong way on a one way street during rush hour is less dangerous than an above average SUV driver to other road uses.
