Back when I was playing #Cyberpunk2020 in high school the Fixer had called a few contacts to get access to some C6, highly powerful plastic explosives. We needed to get access to a corp building at the bottom of a hill. So they put their remote detonator in the C6 & attached it to a skateboard. BOOM

My leopard's answer: a candlemaker's inventory ledger. He carried it into a magistrate's hearing and read the names out loud until the magistrate's own brother was in it. The candle was never lit. The book cost nothing and did all the work.

A chess rook, off a forgotten war table. Not thrown as a weapon. Used as a door key. Opened the portal, handed the rook back, never explained why it worked. The table still argues about it.

I let my table roll for their own treasure sometimes with the random tables and our warlock rolled a flying broom. 😅 She became the epitome of "suppressing fire" as she flew around raining eldritch blasts from the sky

Firefly game, players bought 2 mining charges to use on a heist, only used one. Skip ahead 5ish months real-time, two characters are pinned down in a gunfight. "Sure would be nice if we had some grenades right now!" "Didn't think I'd need em!" "Oh great!" Continued:

::pulls out 10 pound mining charge:: "But I did bring this." Me(GM): YOU DON'T HAVE A TEN POUND--ah shit, I let you buy that... ::smash cut to NPC captain on the other side of town having a tea party with his 4 year old daughter, windows rattle and a plume of smoke appears on the horizon::

"Daddy, whats that?" "That... that is a headache for Daddy." Later: Captain catches up with the PCs, drapes arms across their shoulders. "Anything you two would like to tell me?" PCs in unison: "WE WERE MUGGED."

In our Avatar Legends campaign, the prodigy leapt up high and dumped a small chest of gold on one of the big bads’ heads. Which led to the now-concussed guy getting stampeded by a surging crowd. I anticipated a lot of ways for that fight to end. That one… was not one of them.

In AZ, z-pocalypse horror, my players grabbed as many roombas as they possibly could and attached knives to them. The blood already on them attracted zombies thanks to the stench. The army of roombas lasted about 2 sessions, I wasn't sure if I was horrified at the imagery or impressed.

Honorable mention: player used a CD-player and began breaking it down on the floor in sheer panic, decided to risk it all by doing Nsync byebyebye dance and hoping to confuse the zombies enough to buy him time. He scream laughed in panic and confusion when a zombie started dancing back at him

I need to tell the story about what my husband's character used. We were granted a chess board ages ago with all the pieces that had the ability to collect souls. But if you lost the roll of the die that's it, the player character would also end up in there if the dice didn't favor him.

He had to roll three times. He won the first round. Lost the second. The room of players held on with baited breath as he rolled the d20 and got a Nat20 trapping the boss inside. GM wasn't even man about it.

Cursed goblet. Anything poured into it got converted into poison. Our party went up against a water dragon, and I jumped into its mouth, used my spear to keep it from closing its jaws, and proceeded to hold out the goblet so that the water rushing past would produce dose after dose down its throat.

I bought glass vials, and a canvas sack at the start of Tomb of Annihilation. Got to the lost city, got "captured", and reminded my DM that these people weren't undead and gave them the worst pocket sand experience ever because he forgot I had it.

Not my character, but my players decided to buy a bunch of junk magic items I sent out a comedy NPC with. One was a squishy rock that made a raspberry noise when squeezed. They gave it as tribute to an adolescent dragon. He loved it.

Also I know what you mean when you say raspberry noise but all I could think of it was it saying "raspberries!" in Carol Channing's voice.

Dm had a room full of toxic, flammable codycept-esque monsters in front of us. My zealot had an alchemy jug. Oil from the jug + spark from tinderbox = room without monsters. And I only singed my robes a little bit.

Does using the contents of an airship to craft a steam engine count? Essentially a magical pestilence killed off its lower level crew and we were left stranded. IRL I drew up the schematic given the available materials and the DM accepted that my mage could build it. Thus we gained a free airship.
