Decentralization is a nice thought but we also also need privacy. Nothing's stopping perverts from subscribing to the firehose and hoovering all commits into their LLMs. I've recently decided I'm going with Forgejo for most projects cause I don't want to train chatboxes.

Does forgejo allow for federated private repos, just curious? I realize here you might just be spinning up your own instance for you and your collaborators. Also curious if @radicle.dev allows for private repos that also get p2p seeded across their network.

Great question! My assumption is no, but I also just started onboarding my projects onto a self-hosted instance this past weekend and haven't had enough time to explore the full feature set. My understanding is that federation is still WIP, so a this point more like a personal/private mini github.

Private repositories are supported. Replication is limited to a selected list of nodes. You can add well-known permissive seed nodes to that list. But before you do, make sure you understand the privacy implications. Happy to clarify further. radicle.dev/guides/user#...

Definitely. Like this cry for collaboration: bsky.app/profile/shii... The formats are diverse, and influenced by the underlying network and storage topology. For example, since our user concept is self-certifying, we need everything to be signed, "our way". Would have to converge. Lots of movement!
