The existence of an API is not a determining factor for whether your data can be scraped. This is similar to robots.txt limitations or any other kind of restrictive checkmarks or hashtags. If you post something publicly, you should expect it to be scraped and used.

Yes, and? The fact our data can be accessed by everyone and not just the soulless billionaires who control the black box is a feature, not a bug. Same thing happens if you have a blog or a website, it’s gonna get scraped.

I am hopeful Bluesky will stay true to their origins and continue to try do the right thing when it comes to data privacy. But, you can only do so much when you’re caught in such hyper growth.

Pretty sure this is also possible on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn. You can scrape all that data for sales and lead gen so no reason AI can't scrape it too (not saying I agree, just that it's already available). Go take a look at something like apify.com to see what can be scraped!

apify.comApify: Full-stack web scraping and data extraction platformCloud platform for web scraping, browser automation, and data for AI. Use 2,000+ ready-made tools, code templates, or order a custom solution.

So, is it only okay if big tech companies do this? At least Bluesky has been realistic and transparent in its approach, making an effort to enable users to communicate their consent to developers.
