The whole article is why "as well as" isnt an option. For reference see the past 10 years of Brexit instability. If you think we can easily return, and execute it, then fine. But thats not reality.

No that isnt my main argument. It is trying to do something hard even if worthwhile comes with opportunity costs, and I recall Westminster being gridlocked during the Brexit process. Right now there are more pressing things that could do with concerted focus.

Nearly everything that you can do ouside the EU you can also do from within. After 10 years its clear the Brexit ‘benefits’ are vapourware. Not real. There are only costs.

In a world of big power politics, Britain will achieve very little if it has to focus on internal issues alone. The reality is that Britain is a medium size country and needs a large network of other similar sized countries to share sovereignty costs.

Do you think it might be related to investment? Huge cuts in investment post gfc, further cuts after Brexit. Rejoining the SM/CU might well reverse that investment slowdown.

As soon as you hear the "getting more people into work" argument you know it's a bad faith article When you remove ghost jobs, there's about 600k jobs advertised for 5 million people Maybe the FT should be looking at this instead of pushing right-wing BS about deregulating and welfare spongers?

Productivity is not going to improve our quality of life. It's up by like 40% since 1990 but our lives haven't gotten 40% better. I'll spare you the question why: it's about inequality.

Doing the bidding of the global fascist cabal. If you can’t see that Brexit was orchestrated by the same oligarchs behind Trump, i.e. Putin, to weaken the European Union and allow Russia to advance on conquering Europe, you’re an idiot.

Having read the article I have comments and questions. You don’t mention whether you think rejoining the single market would have the economic benefits others think it would. In your welfare reforms; is this a proposal to revamp the whole system and put the claimant at the centre or just another

government type proposal if ‘work will set you free’. Lastly do you really think any government tied to the economic systems of the last 40+yrs and fiscal rules of the last 20+yrs are going to actually invest in people, services and institutions for the long-term when the financial markets rule?
