Reading about this today has totally pissed me off. It turns out I don't hate AI enough.

There was a redditor who used 'AI' to reverse engineer Beads firmware, and when he finished, then he asked Emilie for "permission" to release it. She open sourced it hours later.

People are shit. I have a synth module I have been working on for 16 years. Been busy with family, but progress is being slowly made. I was looking forward to open sourcing it. Until about 6 months ago when I realized it would just feed the machine, and if I refused someone could recreate it

I'm heartbroken because I was really hoping she'd release Beads someday, but... the fact that she did and not on her own terms perpetually taints it. Open-source Beads will never feel like Clouds to me. In fact, ever since the Arturia thing it all felt pyrrhic and sad.

Like I'm obvs very, almost radically in favor of open source. And same for RE, especially in RTR situations. But this is just such a dick move, just an absolute fucking antisocial, rude ass thing to do.

Right? "Hey I just wanted to reach out to let you know I peed in your soup. Is this okay Y/N? If you don't like it please feel free to get a new bowl of soup I guess kthxbye."

I always believed that responsibly-trained AI guided by people with truly novel ideas could democratize design and make a new boom in people thriving in solo design where they might have been otherwise intimidated. But it's just a machine built on theft that does nothing but make theft easier.

Manipulating this belief has been a very compelling and optimistic way of selling this absolute dogshit.

Absolutely. And, insultingly, this could've been possible, I think. But perhaps not with today's GPUs, today's capital demands... and today's politics. Much like the Beads situation, something that should've been beautiful is crap because of crap people.
