This is me. I’m bad at texting back. I’m awful at asynchronous socializing. I can do it well—especially when crucial, but it takes a lot of effort. I think I inherently resist the digital—I prefer what’s immediately present. Even being here now typing this takes more mental capacity than I’d like.

This is an easy one to answer. Men often associate texting and such with attraction. It's an activity/behavior that is part of the pursuit of a mate. To engage in such communication with another man would trigger...how to put it nicely?....Anxiety...uncomfortableness...

Hmmm. Well, you did use the word "men." If you and merely one other dude feel the way you've described, you are (by the specific meaning of that plural noun) entirely correct. 😅 I'd be curious to know if the feeling is wide-spread, though; or just HOW wide-spread it is.

I am so proud that during the first two years of the pandemic I persuaded my four retired brothers to zoom four mornings a week. It has been a lifelong challenge, but as they get older and face sickness, they are more willing to be vulnerable with each other and their big sister.

Hi Mary Jean! Thanks for the recent follow! You have a great profile and political posting vibe. And regarding this zoom meeting idea of yours ... it's 👍. I agree, men are horrible at e-communications. And I love that you found a workable communication vehicle for you & your brothers to bond.
