Does it? I seldom read fiction, but I believe in sucking the reader in, and writing sentences that make the reader need to read the next one. I’ll give this a try just because I want to read the second sentence.

“Everything starts somewhere, although many physicists disagree.” - Terry Pratchett, “Hogfather”

"As my cab pulled off FDR Drive, somewhere in the early Hundreds, a low-slung Tomahawk full of black guys came sharking out of lane and sloped in fast right across our bows.” Martin Amis - Money

With the article behind paywall, may we ASSUME they went for the easy cliche’ of CS Lewis’ Voyage of the Dawn Treader? “There was once a boy named Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.”

1801 I have just returned from a visit to my landlord, the solitary neighbour that I shall be troubled with - Wuthering Heights Emily Brontë (Thank you Miss McMillan I knew reading this would come in handy one day 👍)

The beet is the most intense of vegetables. The radish, admittedly, is more feverish, but the fire of the radish is a cold fire, the fire of discontent not of passion. Tomatoes are lusty enough, yet there runs through tomatoes an undercurrent of frivolity. Beets are deadly serious.
