Thanks for this. I always chuckled a little at how Mary’s alt life was such a “travesty”…but I really like this perspective. Thanks! Now I just need the extended scene where Potter gets held to account (ala SNL lol).

But yet for millions in America, Christmas once again will be a very depressing time of the year, particularly if you are trying to pay your bills and put food on your table because you have lost your job due to DOGE..

Every year I (the wife) scoff at the idea that spinsterhood is treated like a living hell and my husband comes back with, “no way that 10 guys wouldn’t be lined up for Mary”

I’ve screened this film so many times I’ve watched it on a big screen twice. Once colorized, which was not bad. My standard impression of Jimmy Stewart is the “rabble” speech. But, I’ve never read a better review of it. Great insight. “Mary did it all.” Amen

Correct. There is no Mary problem. There is no problem. It’s a Wonderful Life is a perfect movie. It’s the story of a man living a totally different life than the one he’s always dreamed of & finally realizing that what matters is not achieving your own goals but about the friends you make.

I think this piece is especially meaningful when you consider that Jimmy Stewart, who played George Bailey, was a military veteran at the time this was filmed, saw combat service and would have been intimately familiar with the dynamic of women keeping faith with men with dark moods.
