i will be honest the weird amount of sudden praise for the navy and marines from a bunch of trans people for allowing a handful of trans soldiers to keep doing imperialism that im seeing on this site is deeply uncomfortable, especially seeing people praise a meme about a pro-trans nazi as "based"

In general this site loves to praise the troops, praise veterans, and praise the military Not one of those people who calls our government fascist or Trump a Nazi seems to see the irony in praising the people willing to kill for that Nazi to advance that fascism

fucking this. it is so god damn infuriating and exhausting. it feels like every time we take a step forward we're taking three steps back

did yall forget theres a boycott on the nyt. did yall forget the continuous queerphobia in all branches of the military, and that many of the claims of queerness in the military are basically just taking homophobic injokes literally. did yall forget all the people who the military murders constantly

or does it not matter to yall because the military kills brown people across the world. idk im just begging people to be fucking consistent and not to clap like seals at what is very clearly table scraps given as little more than PR for military recruitment. legit propaganda shit

Queer liberation cannot mean celebrating institutions that continue to oppress & kill marginalized people around the world. Solidarity must be consistent, or it means nothing. We cannot let token gestures and recruitment propaganda distract us from the human lives destroyed by imperialism. Hammam

I've also felt really ambivalent about reporting on trans ppl in military - for example, This American Life ep 887 profiled a trans science officer in the Air Force who was afraid of losing her job... should our focus really be on the trans right to be a Red-Blooded American Warfighter? Idk

NO LITERALLY! like yeah obviously the ban is bad bcz of what it symbolizes, but also im not gonna cry about not being allowed to join an evil force of imperialism, and i sure as hell am not gonna be crying for people who are forced to Stop Doing Imperialism. we have wayyy bigger issues affecting us!

Yeah... the headline about the military policy on trans servicemembers was like "Transgenders are NOT fit to serve in the most rigidly hierarchical and violent part of the state" - and my reaction was, OK? Is that supposed to be an insult? But like you're saying, the malice behind it is horrible
