This is the most intense tsunami footage I've ever seen. It purportedly shows the tsunami from the 29 July Mw 8.8 quake in Kamchatka, Russia, filmed in that same region. Source: seismic.kiwi on TikTok, although I've seen this video all over the internet and may originally be from VK or Telegram.

More seriously, I would say that ~ 1 person a year is lost on Ireland's west coast to "a freak wave" - there's a paper to be done linking "freak waves" to Atlantic seismic data. Might even be a bolide or two in the stats!

I live on the coast, last recorded tsunami here was 1755. I sure hope it was a freak, and we're not overdue another one 🌊😬

That would have been the Great Lisbon Earthquake. That tsunami took a chunk out of Galway's Spanish Arch.
