"Generate a playable world on a spaceship". While the technology is fascinating on paper, it's a little sad to read this when you're running an account that's dedicated to showing the impact of human creation on fiction (and therefore on our lives).

Why would anyone want to play anything that lacks intentionality. These AI shills fundamentally miss the point of why people engage with video games and movies. It's all just prettier dangling keys.

What really pisses me off is that we're using an astronomical amount of resources and technology to push something that turns out to be crappier than the last of the dung at the bottom of a steam backlog.

Exactly what I came here to say. As much as I respect the field of machine learning for the tech leap that it made recently and for its potential interesting applications, I hope that the trend to use AI to copy and replace human art and creativity will stop soon.

As someone who works in this industry, watching colleagues eagerly embrace this tech with absolutely zero consideration of the long-term consequences has been extremely disheartening. We should have buried this once we saw the first gen stuff, but it wasn't *their* jobs so it was fine.

I predict AI will eventually come to a similar place as procedural generation. A useful tool for catalyzing human effort, but in no way shape or form a replacement for it. No Man's Sky is a great example given how much it has changed from it's release.

I'm not sure - like if you view these things as tools, then look backwards, there must have been people calling I dunno oil paint, or the printing press, cheating. Progress is inevitable. Great artists will be fine one way or another.

Oh for sure. I just think a) that the technology is overrated - I use AI every day. It IS helpful, but has clear limitations. b) revolutions in technology are not new, there have been loads. The artists your account highlights are brilliant - there is no way they won't be doing incredible (1/n)

creative stuff even if AI improves. c) what is the alternative? - you can never turn back the clock. Embrace all the new possibilities, humans and human art will always be amazing, it will also always be changing. (2/2)
