I hate how ephemeral the Internet has become. Now it’s starting to affect music. I spent an hour trying to find a place to legally buy a download of an album from 2015, and the only places left are the iTunes Store and Amazon. Nobody has it in lossless, unless I wanna buy a used CD copy from Japan.

Wild shot, but have you checked ototoy.jp? It's a website dedicated to selling DRM free high quality albums to the Japanese market, and some artists/publishers only release lossless there for some reason. You may need to use a VPN to Japan to buy some albums, but it's pretty painless otherwise.

ototoy.jpOTOTOY - Hi-res music store, news, reviews and interviewsOTOTOY is a hi-res music store and also brings you the music news, reviews and interviews. We connects artists and fans in Lossless!

I do feel your pain though, I just want a damn lossless audio file that i can buy and throw into my media server, why is this so hard :( (Especially given that honestly...I don't think I want physical media most of the time...)

No no, don't do it - it's not worth the risk . . . your tastes must be reduced to conform with only what is offered and you must be connected online and pay an endless fee to listen to anything at all. Ownership is now the new piracy. Your refusal to submit to maximum monetization will be noted.
