I look forward to the school that will emerge, likely under the name of "Prompt Engineering", which will evolve a dialect of Basic English (or something similar) whose intentional restrictions will help folks get more-predictable results from LLMs.

I'm curious to see whether that dialect becomes as formal as I expect it to become. I'm prepared to be surprised, but if I were forced to bet my own money, it would look an awful lot like COBOL.

I can imagine! And I skimmed some. Indeed, I am genuinely curious to see whether this happens, less because I want to blame people, and more because if they rediscover programming languages, then I can see that as a sign that we're not done with them yet.
