I'd argue that it's impossible to make a real 9/11 movie without showing the towers being hit, and nothing Hollywood can do will ever be as cinematic as the towers being hit, and also images of the towers being hit still induces nausea and panic in 150 million+ people.

And the only image more PTSD-inducing than the towers being hit is the towers coming down and the smoke cloud tearing through the streets. I couldn't watch Independence Day for years.

TORA! TORA! TORA! is not just a great 12/7 film but a great film, full-stop. Kurosawa directed the Japanese half with watchmaker precision. it's a ratching thriller and one of the decade's best.

"The Japanese side was initially to be directed by Akira Kurosawa, who worked on script development and pre-production for two years. However, after two weeks of shooting, he was replaced by Toshio Masuda and Kinji Fukasaku, who directed the Japanese sections." It's AK's vision carried out by them

I actually think all of these 3 are good films. The hijacking, the response, and the politics. I think if you want a film that encompasses all three elements you’ll need Chernobyl-style miniseries. A movie just couldn’t fit all of that in.
