Kubrick directing means this happens before 2001 (the year, not the Kubrick film) so this is Sandler still in his "screaming manchild" days.

4. my high school guidance counselor was friends with Clarence Thomas, who I assume has spoken with Obama at some point.

To flip some discourse script for a bit: what’s y’all’s Obama number (ie degrees of separation with the former president)? Mine is 3

If you use AI to replace all the low-level employees there will be no one left to sexually harass. I don't think the sexpest CEOs have thought their plan through.

it will never not be funny that Akira is a not-uncommon name in Japan. So imagine if our nation's most enduring and iconic film was called, like, "Jeff"

Denise Richards as a Bond girl: no complaints, yeah that tracks Denise Richards as a ~☆ nuklear fizzicist ☆~: absolutely fucking not.

they say living well is the best revenge and that's true, but if we're all being honest seeing bad things happen to people you hate is also pretty high up on the list

Data centers promise jobs but hire few people That's why I propose a law that every data center must hire 1,000 Priests of Data to worship the computers, pray to the servers, light candles, etc. The priests will boost the local economy and fill the air with the sweet sound of their Gregorian chants

Was looking at the Silent Hill Townfall concept art and my jaw dropped. Was back in my hometown tonight so I had to go and take a photo. There are many ways to mock my beloved Coatbridge, but “your home’s so miserable it was used as concept art for a Silent Hill game” is a new one for me

I think the thing about tribute.wmv that sticks in my head, that's so prescient, is that Enya opening. Bodies were still being dug up and the reporting was maudlin, so over-the-top with sorrow, and those Enya notes really encapsulated it.

tribute.wmv needs to be understood to get the vibe of everyone under like 30 online back then big Y2K online counterculture theme was irreverence- the best and most enduring pieces going deeper than mere one-note edgelordism tribute is art, a complex emotion frozen in time to experience whenever

If you weren't consumed by Islamophobic bloodlust, it felt like you were waking up every day to a new, maddening moment of experience-flattening; knowing nothing good was coming but unable to enunciate the growing dread. tribute.wmv gave voice to that culture-wide crack-ping and I treasure it.

I don't know how I'm only discovering this now, being a huge LARP nerd *and* rivethead but holy lol Mark Rein•Hagen ripped off Ministry's disavowed new wave album for the #VampiretheMasquerade ordinal cover

I've said it about cars for years and now I'm expanding my prediction to consumer goods: the ones without computers in them are going to be very valuable after "the incident"

It's finally happened: the improved quality of machine transcription and the greater ability to extract value from unlabelled data means "your tech is eavesdropping on you for marketing purposes" has crossed from "false conspiracy theory" to "true and concerning" www.theverge.com/tech/991190/...

PC too old to run Zero Company so I reinstalled and started up #XCom 2 again. forgot how much during the first two hours it will not *leave you the fuck alone* with all the unlocks and new missions. I just need 2 days peace to research this alien corpse, God damnit.

"Pale Moonlight" and "Measure of a Man," despite being the most thought-provoking episodes in each of the 7-year runs of god-tier sci-fi shows never provoked as much discourse combined as this one episode of a much, much worse show. Who can say if VOY was good or bad?
