I have no interest in the new Carrie series (not my favorite King and adapted to death already) but I do think it’s unfair to say Flanagan doesn’t have the guts to do real horror. The guy made Absentia, and Ouija: Original of Evil! And more recently Fall of the House of Usher is brutal

Fall of the House of Usher was wildly interesting. I missed half the references going on, and am not a horror watcher that much, but really liked it.

Oculus goes hard too. But he did disappoint me by changing the planned ending of the Hill House series (their “happy endings” were meant to be red room illusions) because he found it too “cruel.” Not saying he always makes the right call but he certainly CAN
