Watched Below, and Newfoundland seems great, there’s no cops apparently except for fish cops, if you find a severed leg you just take it to the local marine biologist, like if you avoid crab poaching you’re good and all other crime js legal

Contracts are signed so now it can be told: my dark fantasy? horror-ish? story "The BFF" will be published in Reactor! Though lead times being what they are it won't appear for quite while, I'll shout about it when the time comes

Thanks to Ellen Datlow for accepting it. I think this is the first time in my 27-year career of publishing short stories that I've sold her something!

I basically didn't submit short fiction for a dozen years because I didn't have time to do stuff for my Patreon AND other stories unless I got solicited. Writing full time has allowed me to start sending things out again and it's cool to feel like part of the conversation again

Me: I don't see any reason to use AI Slop peddlers: You know how you want to sell books but you hate writing? Me: No, I love writing. The only reason I care about selling books is so I can afford to write instead of getting a real job Slop peddlers: Oh. Well... You know how you hate your kids?

My voice to text misheard “trees and sky” as “Treason Sky” so I’ll just be over here writing a nine-volume military science fiction series

I made it home an hour earlier and 500% less drunk than I did last night AND I have no panels at the convention tomorrow/later today so I’m not even setting an alarm, the decadence

Y'all have helped me buy exciting things for my homecoming, including a walker tray, bed risers, a toilet riser, a shower transfer bench, groceries, and grab bars. You will also be helping me stay in my house. Thank you so much. www.gofundme.com/f/help-suppo...

I have moderated my panel for today and now all that remains is my reading at 1:30, and I love doing readings. Then it’s just ✨social time✨

The nice thing about being at World Fantasy is that I get complimented by strangers not just on my outfits but also on my writing, very acceptable upgrade

Welcome to rainy Oakland, World Fantasy Convention visitors! (last week it was 85° and sunny and I hung out all afternoon by the pool. What did you do?!)

The bonus material is a trunk story/novelette i wrote 30 years ago called "Does Wishing Make It So?" that I remembered because I rewatched Obsession last night and it has some overlap in terms of thinking about the ethics of love spells (the ethics are, they're bad) www.patreon.com/timpratt/pos...

patreon.comBonus Story: Does Wishing Make It So? | Tim Melody PrattOne of the skills I have developed as a writer over the, oh, god, 40 years or so that I've been making up stories is being able to tell when

My first was Carrie, 8 years old, third grade. My parents were fans so we had a lot of them and the library had the rest when I got through all those

I've done a bunch of tie-ins, from Forgotten Realms to Arkham Horror to Pathfinder and Starfinder and more, and I have a simple criterion for whether I decide to consider a job: would my 14-year-old self have thought it was cool as hell? If yes, I'm open to doing it

Kate Tell-Tale Heartfield@kateheartfield.com

There is a doofus currently arguing here that no "creative talent" would choose to write tie-ins, and since I just did a panel this weekend on why creative talents choose to write IP, here are a few reasons. Non-financial reasons, for fun and because frankly it usually doesn't pay that well.

I have no interest in the new Carrie series (not my favorite King and adapted to death already) but I do think it’s unfair to say Flanagan doesn’t have the guts to do real horror. The guy made Absentia, and Ouija: Original of Evil! And more recently Fall of the House of Usher is brutal

Oculus goes hard too. But he did disappoint me by changing the planned ending of the Hill House series (their “happy endings” were meant to be red room illusions) because he found it too “cruel.” Not saying he always makes the right call but he certainly CAN

Launched the @bookmoon.bsky.social Indiegogo campaign (began it last December, launched today, everything I do is a little slow these days!) today but missed the actual moment as I was in teen's zoom school class . . . 😂

indiegogo.comWe're Shooting for the Moon by Gavin Grant - IndiegogoWe had a chance to buy the building our bookstore is in and we were on it faster than you can say there's a monster at the end of this book!

revised and submitted two stories this morning, now I have six things in circulation, feeling like a real writer (ie the living receptacle for the universe's need to reject things)
